2011.3.11 일본 대지진. 쓰나미와 지진피해로 폐허가 된 마을들을 방문한 장태원 작가의 짧은 여정에서 비롯된 「진부한 풍경들」, 「도판」, 「희생자들」 시리즈를 엮은 작품집이다. 책의 도입부는 일본 친구들에게 보낸 그의 안부인사들과 작업과정에서 교환했던 이메일을 수록했다. 지도에 이름만 남은 마을전경은 작가가 직접 써 내려간 텍스트들과 함께 현실과 허구, 기억과 망각, 존재와 부재라는 심리적 상황을 그려낸다.

장태원(b.1976)은 한국, 서울에서 태어나 콜롬비아 대학교 예술학 석사를 마치고 현재 뉴욕에 거주하며 활동하고 있다. 본 책은 제 2회 일우 사진상 수상을 기념으로 제작되었다.

2011.3.11 Earthquake in Japan. Taewon Jang travels on a short journey into the villages of the tsunami and earthquake victims to discover the remnants of a disaster. The introduction includes a series of  e-mail exchanges between friends in Japan throughout the process of the project. The artist personally takes us to investigate the site of the ruins that now exist as empty names on a map. Accompanied with a text, this publication examines the psychological situations drawn from reality and fiction, memory and oblivion, absence and presence.

Taewon Jang (b.1976, Seoul, South Korea)

After completing M.F.A. Fine Arts at Columbia University(NY, USA) and B.F.A. Photography at Chung-Ang University(Seoul, Korea), he currently lives and works in New York. Black Midday is the second ILWOO Photography Award catalogue published to commemorate the award.
